Vale Professor Joanne Travaglia

It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Joanne Travaglia following a brief period of illness.

Jo was a Fellow of ACHSM and a significant contributor to the Health Service Management profession as a practitioner, educator and researcher. Jo gave generously of her time to ACHSM and the Health Service Management community, leading professional development activities and participating in conferences with ACHSM (NSW).

Jo was a passionate researcher and teacher in health services management, focusing on aged care and disability and the social determinants of patient safety. Jo led the Schools of Health Services Management at UTS, UNSW and QUT.

She was an outstanding mentor and PhD supervisor. Many of Jo’s students have gone on to senior executive positions in healthcare and academia.

Her colleagues and students valued Jo for her warmth, care and integrity. Jo was a highly valued colleague and friend of many of us in the College.

Jo is survived by her husband, Dr Hamish Robertson.

Hamish and her family are in our thoughts and prayers.

If you would like to make a tribute to Jo, please consider donating to 'Partners in Health' in lieu of flowers. Jo has been supporting their work for many years as she particularly admired the work of Paul Farmer
